On December 9, 2016 there was an event at El Casino Ballroom
in Tucson, Arizona celebrating the 100th anniversary of my
dad's life which we called Lalopalooza. My dad had
performed in that historic ballroom in the 1950s.
The event was sold out. I would guess there were at
least 800 people. The performers on the bill were the
legendary Ry Cooder, who performed with the Ray Camacho Band
and their vocalist Adalberto Gallegos. Ersi Arvizu,
formerly of The Sisters and El Chicano, performed backed by
Ry and the Camacho band. My brother Dan sang my dad's
"Barrio Viejo" backed by Tucson guitarist Ismael Barajas.
Also on the bill were local artists mariachi Los Changuitos
Feos, Ted Ramirez, and Bobby Benton. I performed four
Lalo Guerrero songs backed by Los Nawdy Dawgs, who did their
own set. I sang "Tin Marin de do Pingue," "There's No
Tortillas," and "Los Chucos Suaves" and played lead guitar
on "Marijana Boogie," which was sung by drummer James
Mansfield. Of my set, only "Los Chucos Suaves" was
videotaped. At the end of the show, George Landa of
Los Nawdy Dawgs invited me on stage to jam on "Sacalo."
